The Online Advertisement Market Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3250 words

The Online Advertisement Market - Research Paper Example In 1996, Procter and Gamble executed a deal with Yahoo! in which the basis of revenue calculation was number of clicks on the advertisement instead of number of views which was the norm of the day (Google and Yahoo news, 1996). This basis of compensation was quickly picked up by the media contemporaries since it provided a more focussed approach similar to the ones employed for direct response of the prospect through mail and telephone solicitations. It came to be known as CPC or Cost per Click method of online advertisement compensation. Inspite of its rapid popularity, CPM still remains the basis of many advertisements placements, particularly in the display ads segment. Online advertising revenue has steadily increased its share in the advertising industry both in absolute and percentage terms. For example, in US alone, the online advertising industry has grown from 3.2% in 2000 to 8.8% of total advertising, and from 8.1 billion in 2000 to 21.7 billion in 2007 (data derived from I nteractive Advertising Bureau Press Releases 2000-2007). From connecting computers in government offices, internet has come a long way since 1994 when it was opened for public for the first time. Internet users figure has jumped from 0.4 % of the world population in 1995 to 29.9% in 2010 (IWS, 2011). According to Coffman and Odlyzko, internet traffic almost doubled every four months in 1995- 96. The growth after that has been doubling on a yearly basis since then till 2001 (Coffman & M.Odlyzko, 2001). Main reasons for such drastic growth of internet are the ease of access and usability of internet, huge inventory of data and excellent connectivity instantly. Internet growth is a phenomenon which has not only changed the way individuals work but has also deeply impacted the culture and commerce of countries. The advent of social networking and entertainment in internet arena has further increased the scope of internet users. Before comparing print and online advertisement, it is impe rative to focus on the relationship between content and advertisements published through the two mediums. In print media, the ad is essentially locked with the content i.e. the ad is visible only for that particular day’s content. However, in internet medium, even if the content changes, the ad would still be there. This means that the chances of showcasing an old ad in print media exist only in retrieval of archives. However, the ads in internet are always current, unless it’s the reproduction of archived prints. The relationship or the non-existence of relationship between content and ads has encouraged several journals to open their archives for free which results in increased traffic to the website, thereby increasing its ad revenues (Kohler, 2006). This has changed the way print media looks at ads on its digital editions. Major differences that exist between print media advertising and online advertising are in terms of geographic reach, demographic targeting and ongoing revenues. While the ads in print media have limited geographic reach, online advertising is virtually everywhere. Also, print media ads have limited capacity to customize themselves based on geographic targets than online media. For example, it is nearly impossible for a newspaper to serve a different edition for every city of the world while it is very much possible to serve online ads based on the user’s location. Also, online ads can be updated irrespective of the content, as they

Yes or no, Medieval Gothic churches were a complete break with Greek Essay

Yes or no, Medieval Gothic churches were a complete break with Greek and Roman design What fundamental ideas in Christianity affected how these buildings were designed - Essay Example Settlers later constructed larger houses with multiple rooms separated by columns. The architectural characteristics that are most directly related with the Greeks, columns and stairs, began developing in this era (Scott 19). Three orders developed distinctive patterns for the columns on their temples, with the Corinthian column style having the most elaborate and decorative columns, hence the rarest. The Doric style used by the Spartans was the simplest. Ionic columns were slender compared to the Doric and twice the height. The Romans, like the Greeks, used Doric, Corinthian and Ionic column styles. However, the Romans discovered the structural and artistic worth of arches and domes. They used arches because they could sustain enormous weights, enabling them to construct larger and more decorative structures (Bony 33). The Gothic cathedrals were representations of the universe in miniature scale. Each architectural concept, including the loftiness and enormous dimensions of the structure, were meant to put across theological significance; the great glory of God just as he was viewed by the Christians. The geometrical and mathematical natures of the buildings were influenced by the Christians’ view of an orderly universe, in which can be perceived an underlying logic and rationality (Scott 39). The murals, statues, stained glass and sculptural decoration integrate the spirit of creation in portrayals of the Zodiac, Labors of the Months, Lives of the Saints and referring to eternity in the Last Judgment and Coronation of the Virgin (Bony 12). Many churches had rich, decorative patterns usually depicting biblical stories, emphasizing visual links between Old Testament prophecies and the New Testament. The front elevation of a large church or cathedral, frequently referred to as the West Front, is designed to impact upon an approaching worshipper a powerful impression of the might of

How is internationalisation transforming the nature of the Australian Essay

How is internationalisation transforming the nature of the Australian screen industry and what tensions does this create for local content and the representation of national identity - Essay Example Nevertheless, the year 1968 saw the revival of Australian cinema, in a quest to nationalize its content to address local and national interests. Accordingly, by the 1980s, Australian cinema produced respectable and morally cultivated films that fit the interests of the middle class viewers, as well as middle-aged ones (Ryan, 2009; pp. 45). The Australian government had put in place several regulations to ensure that the film content adhered to the preservation of Australian identity, culture, and character. Australian cinema was national in every sense, since it produced images that reflected the everyday life of the Australian people, the challenges they faced and their aspirations (Kindem, 62, 2000). The images in Australian film showed the Australian landscape and resources, while all the actors were of Australian origin, thus, enhancing the localization of Australian cinema. For a long time, Sydney has been the center of film production in Australia as the New South Wales (NSW) became the leading national producer of audio-visual films. This dominance by NSW and Sidney in Australian film production was a result of heavy federal funding and the presence of many institutions for training in cinematography. In spite of this growth in nationalized films, the Australian cinema was in a dilemma because the cultural and goals were in conflict with the goals of global economy. Evidently, the global economy affects each and every sector of the society, thus, the Australian film industry had little choice but to shift towards the goals of the global economy. During the twentieth century, Australia was also struggling with exhibition venues for its content, especially after the disintegration of the European movie production after World War II. Essentially, this is what made the Australian film industry form an alliance with the producers in Hollywood, leading

The history of The High School Journal Research Paper

The history of The High School Journal - Research Paper Example This then led to the conventional schools that we currently known as public schools. It has also undergone a wave of racial and sexual mixes that has transformed the learning system. Originally, education suffered from segregation, racism and social class. Children from rich families were educated in some of the best private schools while those from poor families were left to toil in the public schools. Immigrants were also not allowed to freely engage in education and state funding rarely went to the development of schools in the predominant south. Women played an active role in advocating for reforms in the education system. The United States education system has developed from a place whereby there were few valuable skills imparted on adolescents as seen in progressivism. It has however undergone significant reforms over the years to cater for its multicultural population. These reforms have however been attributed to historical events that contributed to the present education system. I chose to analyze the History of the High School Journal which published in the first issue in 1910. The journal has been issued every year since then and is still being printed to date. This publication has been reviewed by several authors and continues to be the source of information on the advancements that are being made in the education sector. This period still had traces of the industrial revolution that had spilled over from the 19th century. It was a time of unprecedented economic growth at the height of industrial revolution. Many young people had engaged in jobs and very few were to be found in classrooms. Colleges and other institutions of higher learning had not yet been well established. Measures in secondary education were also still undergoing significant changes with school libraries still being advocated for to improve learning.
